Welcome to the Arts & Crafts Press! Here at our studio in Tacoma, Washington, Yoshiko Yamamoto and her staff are passionate about printing traditional blockprints and letterpress note cards. We print all the greeting cards using the antique letterpress-printing presses. And our colorful limited-edition linoleum and woodblock prints are made using the multiple hand-carved blocks. While preserving and advancing the traditional aspects of letterpress and woodblock printing, we’re striving to print for our future generations. We’re committed to searching for alternative, “greener” printing materials and tools, ecological packaging solutions, and safer studio supplies.

Most people are amazed when they see me bicycling down the street with Graham my long haired chocolate and tan dappled dachshund while eating a bagel and lox and applying eyeliner. They seem even more surprised to discover my Etchings and Paintings are illustrations to my own poems and stories. Sometimes, I illustrate stories I haven’t written yet! As time has passed, I’ve continued to chafe at assimilation by technology and popular culture. The etching of metal plates enables me to make multiple prints that are all originals. The etched plate is truly a labor of love; and a medium that provides the texture and mysterious compliment to my poems, personal anecdotes, and creative musing.

Known for his unique take on the art of copper repoussé, Mark Oberkirsch is well-revered among the tooled copper community. This Missouri-based artist has a background in metalworking and sculpture, but quickly fell in love with copper work thanks to the material’s unmatched malleability and distinctive color. Oberkirsch’s collection of beautiful handmade copper art is testament to the artist’s commitment to experimenting with the medium while showcasing his love of texture and color. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement, Oberkirsch Designs uses copper repoussé (or copper chasing) to groove and channel the copper to create unique, multidimensional designs.
We have been in business since 1980, dealing in antiques and fine art. For the past 28 years or so we have included woodblock prints from the Arts & Crafts era (c. 1895-1930) in our inventory. We exhibit yearly at the Grove Park Inn Arts & Crafts Conference & Show in Asheville, North Carolina. We have written and led discussion groups on the subject. We have also published articles on the Provincetown Print. We exhibit at selected antiques shows and prints fairs.
Julie Leidel has been painting for more than 25 years, but it was only when she discovered the Arts & Crafts Movement (1880-1920) that she truly found her artistic voice. The Arts & Crafts style has been a muse on her shoulder for over a decade, and her love story with this period-style artwork started with a home renovation in 2005. She fell in love with the architecture, furniture, pottery, and lighting that, when brought together, make a house a home.
Hand-made printing using vintage letterpress technology, exquisite paper and hand binding. Clinker Press is a private letterpress studio and I am interested in printing material relating to the art of printing as well as the Arts and Crafts Movement. Letterpress is the original method of printing from the time of Gutenberg. It is the most palpable and direct method of transferring text and images to paper. The art of letterpress printing is one that invites photography and illustration. To that end, we present imagery by Simone Chaves, daughter of Andre and Ann.
Clinker Press is a private letterpress studio and I am interested in printing material relating to the art of printing as well as the Arts and Crafts Movement. Within this focus I print subjects relating to art and literature. Clinker Press is a full letterpress shop with cold and hot metal type (Ludlow and Intertype), hand presses, cylinder presses (one Kluge and one Miehle Vertical press). I am equipped with photopolymer capabilities for illustration but magnesium plates are made elsewhere. All books are printed letterpress and are of very limited editions.
