Most people are amazed when they see me bicycling down the street with Graham my long haired chocolate and tan dappled dachshund while eating a bagel and lox and applying eyeliner. They seem even more surprised to discover my Etchings and Paintings are illustrations to my own poems and stories. Sometimes, I illustrate stories I haven’t written yet! As time has passed, I’ve continued to chafe at assimilation by technology and popular culture. The etching of metal plates enables me to make multiple prints that are all originals. The etched plate is truly a labor of love; and a medium that provides the texture and mysterious compliment to my poems, personal anecdotes, and creative musing.

If you are familiar with the unique sterling silver-on-bronze aesthetic of Heintz Art Metal, you can immerse yourself here . You can start a collection, add to your existing collection, or just browse an ever-changing inventory. I shall list new items often. On the other hand, if pickles and beans and Heinz 57 varieties are what come to mind, you can begin your education here. You will find a history of the Heintz Art Metal Shop, answers to some of the questions you wish somebody else would ask, reading material and references, a schedule of antiques shows in which I exhibit, and finally, a selection of items for sale. In either case, I hope to sharpen your appreciation and eye for this most unique metalwork of the American Arts & Crafts period.
My current passion is exploring the techniques of repousse and chasing in metal. Recent work reflects my interest in the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century. Like me, those artisans rebelled against the severing of artist from his craft by industrialization. In contrast to mass production my guiding principal is making each item with hand, with heart and with skill.
Known for his unique take on the art of copper repoussé, Mark Oberkirsch is well-revered among the tooled copper community. This Missouri-based artist has a background in metalworking and sculpture, but quickly fell in love with copper work thanks to the material’s unmatched malleability and distinctive color. Oberkirsch’s collection of beautiful handmade copper art is testament to the artist’s commitment to experimenting with the medium while showcasing his love of texture and color. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement, Oberkirsch Designs uses copper repoussé (or copper chasing) to groove and channel the copper to create unique, multidimensional designs.

Julie Leidel has been painting for more than 25 years, but it was only when she discovered the Arts & Crafts Movement (1880-1920) that she truly found her artistic voice. The Arts & Crafts style has been a muse on her shoulder for over a decade, and her love story with this period-style artwork started with a home renovation in 2005. She fell in love with the architecture, furniture, pottery, and lighting that, when brought together, make a house a home.
