Craftsman Farms Offers Trip To Stickley Country

Craftsman Farms Offers Trip To Stickley Country

As part of their ongoing centennial celebration, the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms has organized an overnight journey on July 22-23 to Stickley’s original home base, Syracuse, New York, for a one-of-a-kind two-day expedition.

Only a few spots remain, so call today (973) 540-0311 to check on availability.

Here is what you can expect:

FRIDAY, July 22: Traveling by chartered bus, we’ll depart from Craftsman Farms at 7:00 a.m. and arrive in Syracuse in time for lunch. Afterward we’ll make our first stop in Manlius, New York at L. & J.G. Stickley, Inc. We’ll experience the continuing tradition of “earnest furniture-making” on this factory tour and then make a visit to the corporate museum of L. & J.G. Stickley Inc., located in the original L. & J.G. Stickley Factory. With Museum Director Gregory Vadney on hand, we’ll explore the company’s proud century-long history of furniture making.

In the late afternoon, we’ll head to beautiful Skaneateles Lake. Our Friday adventure will be completed with a relaxing dinner cruise provided by Mid-Lakes Navigation, which is owned and operated by descendants of the Stickley Family. We’ll enjoy a fine dinner as we cruise the lake on the Barbara S. Wiles, named for Gustav Stickley’s oldest daughter.

Following dinner we’ll make our way to the Craftsman Inn. Our final stop for the day, the Craftsman Inn is decorated throughout with Craftsman-inspired Stickley furniture & appointments.

SATURDAY, July 23: We’ll begin Saturday with a visit to Dalton’s American Decorative Arts. We’ll be treated to light breakfast fare by our hosts, Debbie Goldwein and Dave Rudd who are principals of this lovely Arts and Crafts gallery (Dave is also a trustee of the Craftsman Farms Foundation). Afterward, Dave will be our guide for a brief driving tour of Syracuse, including an opportunity to see the Stickleys’ Columbus Avenue home (which is not available for tours) and weather permitting, a stop at Morningside Cemetery where Gustav Stickley is buried.

The Everson Museum will be our final stop on the trip. Head Curator Deb Ryan will tour us through the museum’s Arts & Crafts gallery and their collection of American Art Pottery, which includes a diverse grouping of 2000 hand-crafted ceramics and commercial ware.

The rates below include travel chartered bus, hotel, tours, and all meals except Saturday morning breakfast (prior to the Dalton’s visit).

Members: Per person double occupancy $325 (single occupancy $395)

Non-Members: Per person double occupancy $375 (single occupancy $445)

Again, only a few spots remain, so call today (973) 540-0311 to check on availability.
