AAPA Convention Slated For Cleveland

The American Art Pottery Association (AAPA) will hold its annual Convention, Show and Sale from Wednesday, April 26th through Saturday, April 29th. The host hotel for the convention will be the Embassy Suites Hotel in Cleveland/Independence, Ohio. The show and sale will be held at the St. Sava Hall in Cleveland. The convention will feature two tours, three seminars, a welcome reception, a banquet and the show and sale.

Registration for the convention will begin Wednesday morning, April 26, at the host hotel. The chartered bus tour will take attendees to downtown Cleveland and then onto tours of the Playhouse Square, the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and the Judith Soloman Ceramics Studio. That evening there will be a welcome reception at the host hotel, graciously sponsored by the AAPA, where you are all invited to come see old friends and meet new members.

Thursday morning will feature two impressive seminars at the host hotel. The second bus tour will take attendees to the Cowan Pottery Museum at Rocky River Public Library, where lunch will be served and followed by a tour of the facility. After the tour the bus will then take everyone to the William Brouillard Studio. Thursday evening at 6:30pm begins the banquet and AAPA general meeting. The banquet will be held at the St. Sava Hall where a sit-down dinner, including soft drinks, coffee and beer, will be served. It will also be where the newly elected board of the American Art Pottery Association will be introduced.

The last of the three seminars will be presented on Friday morning at the host hotel. The set-up for the AAPA Show and Sale, which will feature many of the premier vintage and contemporary pottery dealers from throughout the country, will begin at the St. Sava Hall. Registered convention members will have early admission on Friday evening. The AAPA Show and Sale will open to the public at 9:00am at St. Sava Hall.

The annual AAPA auction will be held online just prior to the convention. The auction is the main fundraiser for the year and a huge part in allowing us to continue publishing our outstanding Journal. We would like to ask everyone to consider donating or consigning to this years auction. All donated pottery, no matter what type it is, brings 100% of the proceeds to the AAPA. Please contact Arnie Small at 609-407-9997 or [email protected] or Peter Gehres of Belhorn Auctions, our guest auctioneer, at 614-306-1435 or [email protected]. They will be at this weekend’s Arts and Crafts Conference to pick up any consignments and/or donations you may have.

A complete and updated Convention Packet can be found at www.aapa.info. Anyone interested in exhibiting at the AAPA Show and Sale can receive a dealer packet by contacting our show managers, Don Gill and Patti Bourgeois at 508-679-5910 or [email protected].
