Fall Arrives at the Roycroft Campus in Annual Festival

by Kate Nixon

East Aurora, New York: the town where Elbert Hubbard first published his hand-bound books and according to many, the birthplace of the American Arts and Crafts movement. From publishing the works of Hubbard to the rise of Roycroft favorites like the Roycroft Inn and the Roycroft Campus, East Aurora continues to host and educate locals and tourists alike on the historic movement at the turn of the century – and its modern revival. This weekend serves as a  celebration of the first weekend of autumn as the Roycroft Campus hosts their annual Fall Festival.

The beautiful autumn season comes to life on the Roycroft Campus in the heart of East Aurora for their Fall Festival on September 28th & 29th from 10 am to 5 pm. The event features over 50 artists and antique vendors, fresh local produce, meat products, maple syrup and pumpkins, along with tastings from local breweries, wineries and distilleries. Other highlights include: animals from Thistle Creek Alpacas and Wild Spirit Education, kids’ games, printmaking demos, live music, food/beverage vendors and trucks, and fresh popped kettle corn.

Open throughout the weekend is the Campus’ Copper Shop Gallery, featuring the work of over 100 local, national and international artists as well as a variety of unique gifts, artwork, and home décor. Make sure to also visit the Furniture Shop, which offers a range of antiquities, a woodworking studio, pottery studio and an Art & Frame Shop.

The fall festival is free to the public.

Additionally, the East Aurora Art Walk will start Friday, September 27th — and in conjunction, the Roycroft Campus will present glass work in the Chur Family Gallery from artisan Bill Kuczmanski. A glass artisan for 30 years and a long time East Aurorian, Kuczmanski has been heavily influenced by Elbert Hubbard and the Roycrofters’ Mission style.

An opening reception will be held in the Chur Family Gallery in the Roycroft Power House on Friday, September 27th from 4 – 9 pm. This event will run in conjunction with East Aurora Art Walk and a free shuttle service is available between galleries.
